Darom Adom (Red South) Festival. February 2014.

Every spring, the Negev desert starts to bloom and the ordinarily green landscape is covered with a magnificent carpet of scarlet red anemones. To celebrate this amazing natural wonder, the annual Darom Adom Festival dedicated to the very best of the region takes place during the month of February. Every weekend there will be guided tours, a farmers market, workshops and activities for children, bicycle tours and musical performances in select locations throughout the region.

The 2014 Darom Adom Festival takes place over the following four weekends, with each weekend taking on a different theme:

• February 6-8 Culture events weekend.
6 February – Live musical performance “Voca People”.
7 February – Cinema Workshop.
8 February – Color in Nature painting experience.

• February 13-15 Sport events weekend.
14 February – The Barry mountain bike marathon.
15 February – The annual JNF anemones march held in memory of Shashona Damari.
15 February – “Bike the anemones” – A guided bicycle tour around Kibbutz Beeri.

• February 20-22 Culinary events weekend.
21 February – Indian Food Market – visitors can purchase authentic Indian foods, spices, clothes and jewelry.
22 February – Sushi workshop.
22 February – Cooking demonstration and workshop lead by Israeli Chef Ido.

• February 27 – March 1 Children’s events weekend
1 March – Hansel & Gretel – themed sweets market.
1 March – Aboriginal activities, Australian forest artists and music and an Aboriginal painting workshop.
1 March – Eshkol Park Ostrich Farm – activities for children including a petting zoo, feeding ostriches, a craft area, and food stalls.
