“Toy Cycle” exhibition at the Antiquities Museum, Old Jaffa

“Toy Cycle” is a new exhibition at the Antiquities Museum in Old Jaffa. Everything – new, old, ancient mixed in the title of the exhibition, which presents an old as the ancient world toys made of new materials and new ideas. What is this exhibition about? Here, for example, you can find how to recycle old beach rubber sandals into the blue-red elephant or with a ceiling high giraffe. Another example is how to make a flexible dog from the rusted bicycle chains.

The exhibition also presents works of Israeli artists (especially the master of recycling Yossi Weiss, who can revive broken toys, and other things), as well as artists “recyclists” from England, California, Australia, Austria and other countries. The toys on this exhibition become not only a new look but also get a new meaning. This exhibition is full of robots – from large, wooden-jointed to small nimble made of tea tin cans.

Here you can also find new art direction called “X-ray”, made by a pediatrician Nick Veasey from England – he X-rays toys, explaining to children that they should not be afraid of medical devices. Toys in this exhibition are presented in different cycles and combinations. Some of the exhibits can be purchased (support Africa – toys Ocean-Sole brought to Jaffa from Zanzibar for the first time!), part of them was made by exhibition order. On Saturdays, there are seminars for children – materials for the “secondary puppets” are issued with the ticket.
