Feast day of St Mary Magdalene was celebrated in Magdala

On 4 August on courtyard of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Magdala was celebrated the feast day. Magdala – the birthplace of Mary Magdalene, which is also a settlement, located near the Sea of Galilee. The nickname of “Magdalene” traditionally stands for “native of Migdal-el.” It is believed that in this place Jesus cast seven devils out of Mary Magdalene.

The monastery is also famous among pilgrims for its three natural sources. According to the legend, Ocular source helps with vision problems if wipe eyes with its water, visitors does not making ablution here, just collect water with them. Next, the radon source is notable for its amazing blue water, and small fishes that are living here. And last spring, is the one where Jesus Christ healed Mary Magdalene. Here is also possible to make the ablutions.

On the eve, an all-night vigil was made by treasurer of the Mission, Archimandrite Sergius (Obyedkov). Divine Liturgy on the feast day was led by Metropolitan Kyriakos of Nazareth. He was joined by Archimandrite Sergius (Obyedkov) and clerics that came to the Holy Land from Russia.
